Concealed Handgun License For Texas ALMOST Denied!

So I took my CHL class in Houston around the end of July or so and I got a letter about a month ago saying they could not proceed with it because I omitted an arrest that happened to me in Fort Belvoir, VA an Army installation. They said I needed to send paperwork to prove that it was dismissed, etc. I was shocked because one Ive never been to VA nor Fort Belvoir ever in my life! I emailed the person who wrote me the letter and I was very curt in my writing. Here is the email as follows from the first one to the last one.

I can't find my original email, must have deleted it but here's her first reply to the last email anyway:

Mr. _____

It shows that you were arrested on Fort Belvoir Army based on
the date stated in the letter. I need to know if you are currently active
Military? If not then could you submit a copy of your DD-214. If
you have any further questions please feel free to contact me at the listing below.

Thank you,

I replied:

I am not active duty military any longer. I was in the Air Force

stationed at Moody Air Force Base, GA and then Soto Cano Air Base

Honduras. I have never been to Virginia nor Fort Belvoir and certainly

not arrested at either place. I have submitted a copy of my DD214.

Surely there are fingerprint records and/or a photo of the person

arrested that you think is me. Let me know what happens. Thank you.

Her reply:

Mr. _____,

The information regarding the arrest in question were based on FBI

fingerprints submitted with your application. I looked them over to see

if by chance it could have been another applicant and the prints belong

to you. I also looked into your file to see if a copy of your DD-214

was enclosed and it was not. Without this information I will not be

able to proceed in issuing your license. If you need to speak with me

personally you may contact me at the listing below.

Thank you,

I replied:

Could you please point me in the right direction on where I need to go to show that I was not arrested in 2004. Also, did you receive the DD214 that I emailed to you?

(Not in email) I literally was gonna write my old commander from Honduras from back in 2004 to see what the hell I could do about this. Ive never even BEEN to VA.

Her reply last night:

Mr. _____,

I apologize I thought I emailed you back and stated that your license is in the mail and should be arriving any day now. If you have any further questions please feel free to call.

Thank you,

END

Now what the hell happened? I did email her my DD214 and all of a sudden, we're golden and the license is on the way. I bet thats why when I was purchasing a few small arms from the store in Texas it would come back with no answer and I had to wait 3 days. I would still like to know about this supposed arrest in VA. Anyone know where I could go on that one? Anyway license should be at my mailing address in Houston soon.

My bad - I've been submitting random fingerprint and arrest entries to the national database.

In a government database of millions and millions of people, there are bound to be mistakes in documentation.

If the federal government has a database of 100 million people, and a rock-bottom "failure" rate of 0.5%, that still means 500,000 people will have mistaken records (as in your case).

Aren't you glad the government maintains all of this information?

Im pretty sure if you do some googling, you can find out how to obtain copies of the file the fbi has on you, try searching for stuff like "fbi file" and "freedom of information act" together.

edit.

I guess its pretty easy, check out this page

You can't stop them from collecting data. The best you can do is increase the noise to signal ratio until they quit trying.

Nice find, I think I'll do this today.

Never hurts to know what's out there

Of course knowing my luck this will be about as accurate as my Credit Report, only this time someone will have stolen my identity and used it to lead a life of espionage :sarcasm:

I'd definately suggest following up on it. I was a victim of identity theft. The son of a bitch was a TI who stole/copied my records straight from frickin Lackland.

Government workers are usually bottom of the barrel types. Wouldn't surprise me that they somehow would make a mistake.

And somehow they act like their records are perfect...
